KJHS Families, Please see below for a message from Mrs. Myers. Note that KJHS will begin fall reading and math benchmark assessments next week. Students in 5th-8th grade will take STAR Math on September 4th and STAR Reading on September 5th. Students in 5th and 6th grade will also assess oral reading fluency and math fluency computation. Results will be shared with families this fall and after each benchmarking period. After our initial round of benchmark assessments, I will meet with each student individually to review scores and to set goals. Please reach out if you have any questions. Sincerely, Mrs. McClay Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), This year, your student will be taking the Star Assessment as a universal screener for our district. The first round of assessments will take place on Wednesday, September 4 and Thursday, September 5 during your childโ€™s assigned English and math course Star Assessments are short, research-based tests that are aligned to the Illinois State Standards. Star tests are computer adaptive, which means they adjust in difficulty to each answer students provide. This helps teachers get the best data to help students in the shortest amount of testing time (about one-third of the time other tests require). This will also grant us greater instructional time with students. Students will take a Star test for math and reading. These tests will provide teachers with personalized learning data for each student. Teachers will analyze the data they receive from Star Assessments to learn what students already know and what they are ready to learn next, to monitor student growth, and to determine which students may need additional help. For more information, you can check out the Renaissance family resource page at: https://www.renaissance.com/family-resources-star-assessments/. Sincerely, Mrs. Terrah Myers RTI Facilitator

Reminder that 5th graders will be going to Lake Storey tomorrow, Friday, 8/16 for Heritage Days. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress accordingly - the grass will probably be wet in the morning and it's going to get hot in the afternoon. Make sure to bring a lunch if that was the choice indicated on the permission slip. We will have cooler bags for lunches here at school, so paper/disposable lunch bags will be best. Please put your name on your lunch. Water bottles are encouraged - please make sure a name is on those as well. Apply sunscreen at home in the morning if necessary. We are looking forward to a great trip! Thanks, Matt Maaske
