Board of Education Approves Board Goals

July 21, 2015

One of the actions the Board of Education has undertaken on a regular basis over the last 6 years is the development, review, and revision of Board Goals. Goals provide direction for the Board of Education, as well as the entire school district, when making decisions. They also help the Board and School District plan for the future and to be proactive, as opposed to reacting to issues when they arise. The Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) has been instrumental in providing support and guidance when the Board has engaged in this endeavor, which they did in August, 2010 and January, 2013. The IASB has Field Representatives that are trained to work collaboratively with Boards of Education to facilitate this process. Knoxville is fortunate to have worked with their Field Representative, Mrs. Reatha Owen, last spring through this process.

The process actually began on March 7, when members of the community were invited to a brainstorming session with current members of the Board of Education and candidates for the Board of Education April 2015 election. Mrs. Owen facilitated a process where the entire group worked to identify strengths, areas of growth, and goals. The Board of Education and the Superintendent, Mr. Wilder, then met with Mrs. Owen again in May to review those preliminary goals and revise them. The final product was approved by the Board of Education at their regularly scheduled meeting on July 20, 2015. We invite you to review the most recent version of the Board Goals by clicking on the link below.
