Knoxville CUSD #202 Superintendent, Steve Wilder

Welcome From Superintendent Steve Wilder

Hello, my name is Steve Wilder and I am the Superintendent of Schools in Knoxville CUSD #202. I began working in my current position on July 1, 2010. I began my career in the Fall of 1997 as an 8th Grade Science Teacher at Olympia Middle School in Stanford, IL. I have since served as the Principal at Olympia Middle School and the Assistant Principal at University High School in Normal, IL. During my years teaching, I also coached Varsity Football and Middle School Wrestling. The 2013-2014 school year marks my 17th year as an educator in Illinois.

I want to welcome you to Knoxville CUSD #202. You may live here already and have students in our schools. On the other hand, you may live in our community and not have students in our school, or you may be a visitor. Regardless of who you are, or why you are visiting our website, I welcome you. I hope our website provides the information you are looking for. If it doesn’t, please feel free to contact any of the offices in our schools, using the contact information at the bottom of our website.

The past few years here in Knoxville have been exciting, and the future for our school district is very bright. In the past few years, we have achieved a lot:

  • We implemented a systematic process to review our district curriculum and ensure that it is aligned to the appropriate standards, such as the new Common Core Standards.
  • We constructed a new Football Field and Track through the cooperative efforts of our school district and volunteers.
  • We are in the midst of construction of a new High School, two thirds of which is being funded by a School Construction Grant. The remaining third is being funded through the Knox County Schools Facility Sales Tax and Life Safety funds
  • We are in the midst of planning for a districtwide 1:1 computer initiative in the Fall of 2014.
  • We have accomplished all of this despite a reduction of more than $1 million in State Funding over the last three fiscal years.

These are both challenging and exciting times in education in Illinois, and our goal is to look to tomorrow and envision the best of what the future holds. We are committed to supporting our students and helping them develop the skills that will help them achieve their dreams in the future. Our district mission statement says it all. “WE ARE KNOXVILLE...educating students to be productive, involved members of our society”. We take that seriously, and we work diligently with our students, their parents & guardians, and our community to make that happen.

Again, welcome to Knoxville Community Unit School District #202. We are excited that you are here and we look forward to working with you.
