DIRECTIONS FOR REFERENCE LIST
APA
1. A list of all sources used in the research paper is placed as the last page of your paper.
2. The list is entitled “References.”
3. Use the hung indentation.
4. Each entry should be double-spaced.
5. Entries are arranged alphabetically according to the first important word in the entry.
6. Alphabetize letter by letter. Remember that “nothing precedes something.” Brown, J.R., precedes Browning, A.R., even though i precedes j in the alphabet.
7. If you are working with the same author in several entries, follow these rules. One-author entries are arranged by year of publication, the earliest fist: Hewlett, L.S. (1996) precedes Hewlett, L.S. (1999). One-author entries precede multiple-author entries beginning with the same surname. Alleyne, R.R. (2001) precedes Alleyne, R.R., & Evans, A.J. (1999).
8. All sources from which the writer has collected information and ideas should be included in this list.
9. Use the format for individual entries from the “Working Bibliography” sheet or citing sources webpage.
