Instructions for Research Paper  English III Honors

 

  1. This paper is due on or before the start of the period on February 21, 2006.
  2. The paper must be typed.
  3. Each paper should be stapled or bound into some type of notebook on or before the start of the period on February 21, 2006.
  4. The paper should be 2500 to 3000 words—about 10-12 typed pages.
  5. The title page is the first page of your paper.  It should include the title of the paper, your full name, the name of the school, and the date.
  6. The title should be 1/3 of the way down the paper.  The other information is positioned in the bottom half of the title page.
  7. The next page will be outline page.  The title of the paper will appear at the top.  The thesis will be positioned beneath.  Remember the outline should be double-spaced. Also, remember to capitalize the first word of each line.
  8. The next page will be the first page of your manuscript.  You should begin typing 1/3 down  the page.  There is to be no page number on this first page.  Do not put the title on this page as it is already on the title page.
  9. Number pages following the first, with a number either in the middle of the paper or in the upper right-hand corner.
  10. Parenthetical references and the list of reference page should be constructed accord to the Modern Language Association (MLA).
  11. The last page of your paper will be your reference page, which is a complete list of the sources you used.  This word “Works cited” will appear, capitalized and centered at the top of the page.  For a reference page the first line of each entry will begin at the left margin, and subsequent lines will be indented.  Remember to have sources arranged alphabetically.
  12. No crossing out of letter or words, strikeovers, or extensive erasures will be permitted.  If you must erase, do it neatly.
  13. Lengthy quotations (40 or more words) should be double-spaced and indented five spaced from the right and from the left.  Unless the quotation appears within the quotation, the indentation takes the place of the quotation marks.  The period follows the quotation and the parenthetical reference follows.
  14. When you turn you research paper in you need the following:  all bib cards, all note cards, all Internet Articles, rough draft, and final copy.
  15. The order of the pages will be as follows:  title page, final outline, final paper, and rough draft.
  16. If you need something for your speech take it out ahead of time. Do not wait until the day of your speech to tell me this.
